Current Projects and Activities

The FSC and their partners are working hard on the following projects:

Education: the Food Security Council provides education about the current status of hunger in Montana, factors impacting food security, barriers to accessing food and other current topics to:

  • Council members
  • Community groups and student groups
  • The public at large – through articles and opinion pieces
  • Policy makers
  • Other Activities:

    • Legislation
    • The FSC provides oversight of the GRASP program - a major, long term program to increase food security in all counties thourgh intervention and actions at the local level.
    • Outreach and promotion of public food programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - formally Food Stamps), Summer Food Service Programs
    • Education to school and community leaders on the Universal Breakfast Programs
    • Support for increasing Community Gardens and Procurement of local foods that are affordable to low-income people.
